Research Interests

I am interested in studying the visual perception of faces and objects. My main focus is on how the three-dimensional shapes of faces and objects are represented and recognized despite changes (1) imposed by environmental constraints (e.g., viewing from a different angle), and (2) arising from the objects themselves (e.g., aging of faces). In addition, I am interested in how facial features are encoded, notably in unfamiliar situations such as viewing a face from another race (the other-race effect). I use a combination of tools including EEG, psychophysics, eye movement recordings and computational modelling (e.g. ideal observer models, classification image analysis).

I also take interest in studying other aspects of vision, notably the interaction of visual motion and form information. The novel periodic motion trajectories (Or et al., 2011) and moving Glass patterns (Or, Khuu, & Hayes, 2010; Glass, 1969) are among the psychophysical stimuli I developed to study the interaction.

I obtained my Ph.D. in the Department of Psychology and the Centre for Vision Research at York University, under the supervision of Prof. Hugh Wilson, after earning my master's degree (M.Phil.) with Prof. Anthony Hayes and Dr. Sieu Khuu at the University of Hong Kong.
